Cutting Edge Creativity

Here at Seam Magazine we never tire of seeing a simple two-dimensional element transform into a multifaceted piece of art. So we’re incredibly excited to tell you about artist Nia May's paper cuts exhibition currently showing at the Sweets Workshop!

The Paper and the Blade exhibition features a collection of Paper Cuts made by Nia over the past year, all created using only paper, a knife, and “the gentle disarray of my mind.”

As told to Sweets Workshop, Nia says she is inspired by the benign humour of children’s stories with her images derived from the tales of Hans Christian Anderson and the Brothers Grimm.

"I like to think of these images as postcards or snapshots from a sweet and slightly strange world rendered into 2D by my trusty little knife," she says.

"This world is inhabited by a motley cast of little girls and skeletons, birds, bears and tea pots."

For an eerily beautiful paper sensation drop into Sweets Workshop in Summer Hill, the exhibition runs from 17th September – 5th October.
